Mission Style “Voile” Dress.
Le Style: Long chemise dress with eyelet closure, pockets and ruffled hem in Cotton Voile.
Ma Muse: In 1783, the artist Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun painted a portrait of Queen Marie Antoinette of France wearing a white cotton robe. It caused a scandal for resembling the undergarments of the period. In 1976 this dress was quickly adopted by the chic set. Imagine Loulou de la Falaise and Bianca Jagger spending the evening at Le Palace, Martha Graham giving a dance performance on an Isamu Noguchi set or Uma Thurman in 1988’s Dangerous Liaisons.
Mode d’Emploi: Wear it for on island getaway, or cinch at the waist with a belt and wear it with a pair of open-toed sling backs for a boho-chic look.
Note: Cotton Voile is slightly sheer, wear over bikini on vacation or with a slip for coverage.
